‘Eeuw!’: Kelly Khumalo throws shade at ex-fiancé Chad [watch]

Amid her relationship with the late Senzo Meyiwa being laid bare in court amid his murder trial, Kelly Khumalo is revisiting another past relationship – her engagement to rapper Chad da Don.

Kelly was speaking during an interview with Kaya FM on Thursday 15 September about a wide range of topics, including the trial.

But when her ex’s name popped up, the singer had a shady response.

Kelly Khumalo briefly dated – and became engaged – in 2018 following a whirlwind romance.

In her interview with breakfast show hosts Dineo Ranaka and Sol Phenduka,  Kelly Khumalo chatted on burning topics, including the murder, trial, and conspiracy theories surrounding the death of Senzo Meyiwa who was shot and killed on 26 October 2013.

She also chatted about new music and revealed how Senzo had “visited” her in her dreams.

But things turned awkward when Sol brought up Kelly’s ex Chad da Don, whom she was in a high-profile romance – and split – with.

Sol asked: “What happened with Chad?” to which Kelly had a seemingly insulting response. She said: “Euuew, Sol! This is my platform. Respect me and my effort for waking up at 4 am to be here”.

Kelly Khumalo added that Chad was “not worth talking about”, to which Sol hilariously quipped: “Ok let’s scrap that, you’re right. I love you so much”.

The mom-of-two then claimed that she and the rapper were a “weird combination”.

She continued: “The things we do when we are in a weird space, you! When you are in a weird space, step back and don’t do anything. Because whatever decisions you make at that particular time, you are going to regret them.

“I was in that space of being left behind, trying to fill up a gap, not realising that that space is within myself”.

WHIRLWIND ROMANCE

But despite her scathing words, Kelly Khumalo and Chad da Don were once madly in love – or so they portrayed to the public.

What started as a saucy feature by Chad da Don in Kelly Khumalo’s Dance Comigo music video in October 2018 turned into rumours that the pair were dating in real life.

Fast forward just two months later and the pair announced their engagement. They celebrated the occasion by tattooing each other’s initials on their ring finger as a sign of their commitment to each other.

The high-profile celebrity couple attended red carpet events together, were regulars on each other social media and Chad specifically took an interest in playing the father figure role to Kelly Khumalo’s two kids: Christian and Thingo.

But things unravelled quickly. In February 2019, Chad confirmed to Drum magazine that they had split. Shortly thereafter the couple was back on with Chad and Kelly Khumalo revealing their engagement rings on social media in April.

The couple split again sometime later, and this time for good. In November Chad went public with his new romance with Carlla Poggenpoel.

A year later, Kelly Khumalo revealed what led to her breakup.

Speaking to Mac G on Podcast and Chill in October 2020, she said of Chad da Don: “He was insecure about friends – I have a lot of gay friends – and insecure about my fans. My fans are my life. I am where I am because they support my music, they support my brand, and they support my performances.

She continued: “I had to downplay who I am to just fit into that world of just wanting to have a family. I am not that desperate”.

WHERE IS CHAD NOW?

Despite the shady comments by Kelly Khumalo, Chad da Don has remained mum on their failed relationship and engagement.

However, tweeps had plenty to say about the singer’s snarky comments
