A second murder docket – which lists Kelly Khumalo and others as suspects in the murder of Senzo Meyiwa – has been dismissed by the NPA.

The news was revealed during the trial’s proceedings, which resumed in the Pretoria High Court on Monday 13 June.

Senzo Meyiwa was shot dead on 26 October 2014 in the Vosloorus home of his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo’s mother. Kelly and the rest of the house’s occupants claimed that the soccer star was killed in a botched robbery.

Five men – named in a first docket –  are facing murder charges over what the state claims were a “hit” on the Bafana Bafana goalkeeper.

NPA CLAIMS SECOND DOCKET ‘HAS NO MERIT’

According to the Gauteng director of public prosecutions Andrew Chauke; the second docket was dismissed after its existence was made public knowledge last week.

Chauke’s official response was read by defence advocate Zandile Mshololo during court. In the letter, the DDP official claims that docket “375” was merely “an internal opinion from a junior state advocate”.

“This office did not make any decision or otherwise regarding the case docket. The alleged document does not have any status [and] was an internal opinion from a junior advocate which was without merit,” Mshololo read in court.

Msholo argued that the letter was received on Monday morning after the court adjourned last week to study the second seemingly incriminating docket. She also contested that the docket does hold merit.

In docket 375, seven adults are named as murder suspects. They are Kelly Khumalo, her mother Gladness, her sister Zandi and her boyfriend Longwe Twala, and Senzo’s two friends Tumelo Madlala and Mthokozisi Thwala. Also named in the docket was Maggie Phiri, the woman who allegedly cleaned the Vosloorus home in which Senzo was shot and killed

Deliberations over the second docket’s validity continue in court.
