On Wednesday this week, US actor Johnny Depp won his defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard. The trial gained worldwide attention as social media users picked sides based on all the evidence shown in the courtroom – and judging by many posts – Depp was a clear favourite.

Meanwhile, this didn’t matter to the jury who delivered their final verdict which saw Depp being awarded $15 million from Heard. And now experts have shared exactly why Depp may have won the case.

Experts share why Johnny Depp won defamation case

The Johnny Depp-Amber Heard case has been widely publicised and left many people on the edge of their seats as they waited to hear the outcome.

Social media users almost instantly rallied behind Depp who was also seen a number of times behaving quite peculiar in the courtroom.

Heard, on the other hand, was frequently accused of acting by social media users who appeared to have a tough time believing anything she said.

Meanwhile, legal experts told The Post on Wednesday this week, that Depp likely won the case because the jury – much like social media users – did not believe Heard was being truthful.

“The case was going to rise and fall on her credibility more than any nuanced legal question. And she just did not make it through the trial with her credibility intact,” said former California judge Halim Dhanidina who is currently working as a criminal defense attorney in Los Angeles.

‘No mercy’ for an ‘overactor’

Dhanidina also told the publication that most jurors likely did not believe that 36-year-old Heard had suffered abuse at the hands of Depp.

Meanwhile, entertainment attorney Mitra Ahouraian echoed these thoughts and asserted that jurors likely found the Aqua-Man star to be inauthentic, undeserving of sympathy, and quite an over actor.
