Taking place at the jam-packed Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch on Sunday afternoon,  Khune had the support of a 15 000 legion of boisterous and soccer-obsessed fans.

In fact, fans of the goalie proved to be a distraction after they not only delayed the match by 30 minutes, but stormed the pitch following an equiliser goal by Kaizer Chiefs.

Doing his bit, Khune calmly asked fans to return to their seats for the match to continue. But moments later, he had them jumping for joy again after saving two penalties during a shoot-out.

Kaizer Chiefs won the match 4-3.

Revealing his motivation for allowing Khune to return to playing on the pitch, he said during a media briefing: “We needed to give Itu the opportunity because he’s been working very hard. Also, I wanted him to show a bit of hunger and desire.”
