The Kill Bill singer, SZA, has added another accolade to her impressive collection.

On Thursday, 13 June 2024, she received the Hal David Starlight Award at the Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Gala.

This award celebrates young songwriters who have made a significant impact on the music industry.

SZA, 34, expressed her delight during her acceptance speech, according to People.

“I’m just beyond all of my wildest dreams,” she said.

She added that the honour “basically validates” her entire career, especially her songwriting.

“I’m just so grateful,” she continued. “Thank you for seeing me.”

Reflecting on her journey, she remarked, “I swear, I’ll be like, ‘Oh I wrote this and I wrote that.’

People would then be like, ‘OK,’ especially if you’re a woman, especially if you’re a Black woman.

So to win this… It just means the world.”

After her heartfelt speech, SZA performed an acoustic rendition of her song Snooze.

Nile Rodgers presented her with the award, according to B.E.T.

The event took place at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.

It was a night to remember, featuring performances and presentations by stars such as Missy Elliott, Jason Isbell, Carrie Underwood, and Keith Urban.

Several artists were also inducted into the prestigious Songwriters Hall of Fame.

These included Donald Fagen and Walter Becker of Steely Dan, producer and rapper Timbaland, and Mike Mills and Michael Stipe of R.E.M.

SZA’s award adds to her recent string of achievements, according to Pink Villa.

Following the release of her global smash album SOS, she has won three Grammys, four iHeartRadio Music Awards, four Billboard Music Awards, and a Brit Award.

She has also received over a dozen more nominations.

SZA now joins the ranks of previous Hal David Starlight Award honourees like Taylor Swift, Post Malone, Ed Sheeran, and Lil Nas X.

She is also a five-time nominee at the 2024 BET Awards on 30 June. Nominations include a nomination for her feature on Rich Baby Daddy with her ex and 2011 Hal David Starlight Award recipient, Drake.

The Snooze singer continues to shine on stage.

Her SOS Tour grossed $95.5 million and sold 674,000 tickets in 2023.

She performed at several festivals this summer, including a headlining slot at the 2024 Governors Ball last weekend.

Next, she will perform at Milwaukee’s Summerfest and then at the British Summer Time Hyde Park concert series in London.

SZA is also set to make her acting debut in a buddy comedy opposite Keke Palmer, produced by Issa Rae at TriStar Pictures.

This marks another exciting chapter in her flourishing career.

SZA’s achievements continue to inspire and affirm her significant impact on the music industry.
