Way back in 2017, late rapper AKA and Anatii’s took us down Bryanston Drive with the opening track on their collaborative album Be Careful What You Wish For. The leafy Johannesburg suburb was what AKA called his home turf, having acquired his very own Megacyland mansion there in 2015.

At the time, he posted the picture of his new crib on his Instagram with the caption:

“There goes the neighbourhood. Thank God for more blessings.”

AKA goes Supa Mega in Bryanston

Although Kiernan Jarryd “AKA” Forbes was not generally known for flashing his wealth, the award-winning rapper owned one of the biggest mansions in Bryanston, according to Briefly News. Houses cost anything from R4 million upwards in this posh suburb north of Johannesburg. Take disgraced Terry Pheto’s three-storey Bryanston home which — unsuccessfully — went on auction for more than R4 million, for example…

Moneyweb reported last week that a probe by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) showed that the Tsotsi and The Bold and the Beautiful actress built the luxury home with R3 million from lottery grant money which was meant for an “initiation programme”.

The Bryanston life…

South African fans of the iconic rapper got a sneak peek of AKA’s house when he hosted SABC1’s The Braai Show with AKA…and whenever the avid Manchester United and Benni McCarthy fan felt like posting a video playing soccer near the swimming pool.

After the death of his fiancée, Anele “Nellie” Tembe, in April 2021, AKA bought a French bulldog named King Louis. He posted a video clip on the adorable pooch’s Instagram account, @MrLouWorldWide. The clip features DJ Zinhle and Kairo practising handshakes and other tricks with King Louis in AKA’s Bryanston home.

Whenever he had some free time to chill, AKA used to go for a splash in his swimming pool where he also came up with some “masterplans”.

DJ Zinhle pays final respects

Following the shock news about the rapper’s fatal shooting in Durban’s Florida Road on 10 February this year, friends and prominent figures in the music industry visited his home in Bryanston to show support to the family. Oskido and DJ Zinhle, the mother of his seven-year-old daugther, Kairo Forbes, were some of the first celebrities to pay respect at his home.

According to Zalebs, AKA revealed in one of his interviews that he made millions from his partnership with Cruz Vodka.

“We have made millions and millions through Cruz Vodka. The difference is that I don’t really talk about my business moves that much and the working of it that much because I don’t believe that’s the right thing to do in business – you don’t talk about numbers in public.”

The rapper attributed his relationship with money to his upbringing.

“If that’s how somebody else wants to go about with their business its up to them. But you never going to hear me talking about you, we just did 20 million.”

Some of those mega millions must have found their way into his Bryanston crib. Take a look…
