Polish influencer Marta Rentel sold her love as a non-fungible token (NFT) online to a mystery buyer for R3.6 million, whom she will go on a dinner date with once the transaction is complete.

MARTA RENTEL SELLS ‘DIGITAL LOVE’

Marta Rentel became the first person to sell her love as an NFT. However, the 26-year-old influencer says she wants to be sure that people do not mistake Marta Rentel the person for Marti Renti, the online persona, whose love she sold for $250 000 (R3.6 million).

“Nothing on the internet is physical, it’s a part of my online persona,” said Rentel to Insider.

NFTs are a unit of data stored on a digital ledger. The data could be any digital file such as an image, video, audio clip or pdf which can be purchased anywhere in the world where Binance can be accessed. Just like her perception of love as NFT, she believes all of her digital work is attributed to “Marti Renti” her online persona.

“My name is Marti Renti. It’s not my ‘real’ name though, it’s the digital version of it, coming from the parallel world where the internet is my stage,” according to her website.

The influencer sold her asset of “digital love” on 13 July but as a real-life token of the purchase she agreed to go on one date with the anonymous buyer when the transaction is complete.

‘DIGITAL LOVE IS TRANSACTIONAL’

The influencer who has 656 000 followers, said she wanted to achieve something unique by tokenising an emotion. She also put up exclusive ownership to her Instagram photo and YouTube videos for sale as NFT’s.

She added that selling her love was not just a money making scheme but also a statement to other women about autonomy.

“For me, selling digital love is empowering for women because we can love without compromising our freedom and individuality,” said Rentel to Insider.

“Digital love is transactional, but so is marrying a man just because he is wealthy and stable, right?,” she added.
