Hugh Jackman has a heart of gold, and his latest Instagram post is evidence of it.
The Wolverine actor pulled at our heartstrings after he posted an image of himself embracing his elderly mother, Grace McNeil.
“Mum,” he simply captioned the post of the pair gazing into each other’s eyes.
The image is sweet enough, but it’s the story behind it that leaves a lump in our throats…
HUGH JACKMAN: IT WAS TRAUMATIC
The Australian star has been vocal about the complicated relationship he has had with his mother, whom he claims abandoned him when he was just eight years old.
He said in a 2018 Who magazine interview about the day his mother left behind him and his four siblings: “It was traumatic…I thought she was probably going to come back. And then it sort of dragged on and on”.
And he vividly recalls the day too. He told Australia’s 60 Minutes back in 2012: “As I went off to school, when I came back, there was no one there in the house. The next day there was a telegram from England. Mom was there. And then that was it. I don’t think she thought for a second it would be forever.
“I think she thought it was, ‘I just need to get away, and I’ll come back’…Dad used to pray every night that Mom would come back.”

Unbeknownst to him at the time, Hugh’s mom was secretly battling depression.
“I know she was struggling. She was in hospital after I was born suffering from postnatal depression. There wasn’t a support network for her here”, he told The Sun.
Hugh has since “made peace” with his mom.
SKIN CANCER SCARE UPDATE
Earlier this month Hugh Jackman – who has has been treated for skin cancer six times in the past – gave fans a health update following his latest biopsy on his nose.
He wrote in an IG post of the results: “ It’s come back “inconclusive”. This means they didn’t take enough. That said, the worst it can be is a Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC). So when I’m done filming, I’ll have it rechecked.”
The actor also used his own experiences to encourage his followers to regularly screen themselves for skin cancer.
“I know I’m repeating myself and will probably not stop … please get skin checks and wear sunscreen. Thank you all for so much support. I’m seeing your comments and stories. If by posting about this I remind one person to go see their dermatologist – I’m happy”.
