How Unathi Nkayi got to be suing Kaya FM for R1.6m

After getting fired by the station, former Kaya FM radio personality Unathi Nkayi is not backing down without a fight and suing the radio station for R1.6 million.

R1.6 MILLION: UNATHI NKAYI SUING KAYA FM

According to TshisaLIVE, Nkayi is demanding R100 000 for delictual damages and R200 000 for infringement of dignity.

She was said to have been earning R81 250 from Kaya FM when she got dismissed 16 months before her contract was supposed to end.

Following her dismissal, Nkayi has reportedly lost gigs which she would have gotten paid for as well.

Nkayi was said to have had a gig to host the GQ Men of the Year awards where she would have been reportedly paid R30 000.

She reportedly also lost a gig with KFC where she was said to have had the arrangement to be paid R70 000.

THE VETERAN RADIO PERSONALITY AND SIZWE DHLOMO’S BEEF

In November 2021, Nkayi was booted from the station for “certain conduct that rendered the relationship intolerable going forward”, and “a breakdown of trust between the two parties”, Sowetan reported.

Nkayi was reportedly silenced by Kaya FM and when she eventually broke her silence, she was quoted as saying,

“I was specifically told that I cannot use my platform to share my version of events. The only matter I will address, because it is very important to me, is the theme of GBV that keeps on coming up.”

According to Briefly, even months after his feud with Nkayi, Dhlomo is unapologetic and unbothered by Nkayi’s professional drama.

Responding to a Twitter siding with Nkayi, an unremorseful Dhlomo said,

“She lied & got what she deserved.”
