Redi Thlabi has publicly slammed the Minister of Police Bheki Cele’s visit to the crime scene of Hillary Gardee’s body as a “photo opportunity”

On Tuesday 3 May, Cele visited the secluded area outside Nelspruit, where the body of the daughter of former EFF secretary-general Godrich Gardee was found dead.

This, after she was reported missing last week Friday after visiting her local supermarket.

But Redi, along with other tweeps, have found the move to be “disrespectful” towards the grieving family.

BHEKI CELE’S CRIME SCENE VISIT IRKS TWEEPS

On Tuesday, Bheki Cele along with national police commissioner, General Fannie Masemola visited the crime scene found in Rhenosterkhoek timber plantation in Mbombela.

Speaking to reporters, the minister said vowed to catch the people behind the murder of 28-year-old Hillary Gardee.

He said: “We have a criminal out there who murdered a young human being, it does look like in a brutal way. So let us get that person… it will help us [to know] if there are politics in it, economics in it if it’s just hate, passions, whatever kind”.

However, tweeps have found the public walk around, which was filmed by the media, to be distasteful.

Former 702 presenter Redi Thlabli questioned why Cele had visited the Gardee crime scene at all and why it was made into a “spectacle”.

She tweeted: “What is this spectacle for? How does it help the investigation? In what ways does it send any useful message to the bereaved family AND the cruel perpetrator/s who took an innocent life? Would it not be better if Minister did his performance AFTER he & team catch the criminal?”

Tweeps also weighed in with their opinions.

@BekithembaZ: “Crime scenes should be protected, I know that from a TV show but look at Bheki Cele and friends standing there like It’s primary school career day.

@Mangethe__: “Cele is not a cop, what is he doing there? Our top cop is the National Commissioner who was supposed to be there, this is the kind of nonsensical behavior that mess up crime scenes and let criminals escape the full mighty hand of our law, exactly how they mess with Meyiwa’s case

@drlion18: “This visit is a PR exercise. It’s all for show and political point-scoring. It doesn’t assist with the investigation at all”
