Harry and Meghan’s alleged rift with Beckhams erupts in bombshell book

While Revenge: Meghan, Harry, and the War Between the Windsors by Tom Bower continue to make headlines around the world, claims of a rift between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and one of the world’s most famous couples are making the rounds.

Tom Bower is a British writer best known for his investigative journalism and unauthorised biographies of public figures ranging from Simon Cowell to Boris Johnson. He published Rebel Prince: The Power, Passion, and Defiance of Prince Charles in 2018 before turning to the Sussexes.

In his book, Bower claims that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had a falling out with David and Victoria Beckham and accused them of leaking stories to the press.

David and Victoria attended the couple’s 2018 nuptials, but now Bower claims that the Sussexes became “addicted” to reading about themselves in the media. Harry and Meghan – who now lives in California – were allegedly worried that their secrets were getting out to the British press through their famous friends and tried to figure out who the mole might be amongst their inner circle, according to Marie Claire.

“Harry and Meghan were shackled,” Bower writes. “Every night they scoured the internet to read the newspaper reports and the trolls’ postings on social media. Irrationally, they grouped the two together and fed each other’s frenzy about the media. Convinced that as champions of goodness they were being persecuted by mendacity and racism, they felt victimized by the mildest criticism.”

Meghan and Harry left ‘David Beckham outraged‘

Bower writes that Meghan allegedly “suspected Victoria Beckham of indiscretion” and “Harry’s instability fed Meghan’s fears that friends were leaking stories to the media”.

This reportedly led to a tense phone call between Harry and David, Bower’s book claims further.

“Harry called David Beckham to repeat the accusation,” Bower writes. “Outraged, Beckham’s truthful denials damaged their relationship.”

It is not clear when the phone call took place exactly, but various outlets reported in 2020 that hat David “quickly put Harry right, and the two men agreed to move on- but it certainly made things awkward for a while”.

When David and Victoria’s oldest son Brooklyn married Nicola Peltz in 2022, reports of the Sussexes rift with the Beckhams made headlines once more. At the time it was reported that the Beckhams “prefer” the company of Prince William and Kate Middleton and even invited them to the wedding. Due to security reasons, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge reportedly had to decline.

A source close to the Beckhams revealed to The Mirror, “David and Victoria wrote to William and Kate inviting them and the family to their son’s wedding, and William replied wishing them a great deal of joy but they are unable to attend.”

Prince William and Kate tied the knot in 2011 and invited David and Posh Spice to the event.
