Pop star Britney Spears addressed the world for the first time in May during her legal battle with her family over her 13-year-long conservatorship. Her father, Jamie Spears, had been controlling the singer’s business affairs. On 14 July, Britney won the right to choose her own lawyer ending the conservatorship.

The Los Angeles Superior court judge Brenda Penny agreed to prosecutor Mathew Rosengart being Britney Spears’ new representation.

Speaking to judge Brenda Penny, Britney expressed that he was extremely scared of her father.

“You’re allowing my dad to ruin my life. I have to get rid of my dad and charge him with conservatorship abuse.”

Rosengart takes over from Samuel Ingham who was appointed the pop star’s lawyer by a court in 2008. Rosengart has represented the likes of Sean Penn and Steven Spielberg.

She embraced the #FreeBritney fight and celebrated on Instagram posting a video of herself doing cartwheels on an open patch of grass. In the caption of the post she celebrated her “real representation” and said she feels grateful and blessed.

“Thank you to my fans who are supporting me … You have no idea what it means to me be supported by such awesome fans !!!! God bless you all !!!!!”

Larry Rudolph who has been Britney’s manager since the mid 90’s announced his retirement in a lengthy letter to her father. In the letter he noted that it had been two and a half years since they last communicated.

When they last communicated, Britney told Larry that she wanted him to take an indefinite work hiatus. He also made it clear that he has never been part of her conservatorship and says he was just hired as her manager.

He alluded to the fact that Britney was looking to retire.

“I became aware that Britney had been voicing her intention to officially retire”, he wrote.
