Emmy Awards bosses reportedly want Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex to make their Hollywood red carpet debuts at next month’s ceremony.

Making their red carpet debut

Organisers have apparently lined up the royal couple as a star turn at the Los Angeles event on 19 September – earmarking them to present an award, according to editors at The Sun newspaper.

“The Sussexes are in high demand – it would be their first red carpet appearance since Megxit and their full-time Californian move,” a Los Angeles-based source told the outlet. “Oprah is planning to attend the night, which could help get them there.”

Oprah Winfrey is nominated for the Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special Emmy award for her CBS Primetime tell-all interview with Harry and Meghan that aired in March. It is believed that royal fans are not happy as ‘the interview was full of misinformation and lies’.

“An Emmy is all about achievement or so I’m told. It was an achievement to get both Meghan and Harry to talk but what they said far less so. Surely truth matters??” Royal biographer Angela Levin said in a tweet.

A power couple

The power couple have also signed a huge deal with Netflix, which could increase the chances of a potential appearance, reports Cover Media.

“Certainly, there would be a VIP invite for them from Netflix at its evening celebration event,” the source added. “Netflix knows that shots of them with big Hollywood names would be huge PR.”

It is not yet clear if the couple is planning on attending the Emmys ceremony at the Microsoft Theater – which is this year set to be hosted by Cedric the Entertainer.

A birthday bash

Meghan, who turned 40 on Wednesday, 4 August gave birth to the couple’s second child, Lilibet, in June.

Her estranged father Thomas won two Daytime Emmys and a Chicago/Midwest Emmy during his career as a lighting director.

The couple and awards organisers are yet to comment publicly on the reports.
