Elliot Page has also opened up about his journey of coming out as a transgender man in 2020 in the new edition of Time Magazine.

ELLIOT PAGE’S TIME MAGAZINE COVER

The Inception star is dressed in jeans and a sweater for his Time Magazine that reads “I’m fully who I am”.

The piece in the March/April edition was Elliot Page’s first interview since coming out as transgender in early December 2020.

The cover was shot by transgender photographer Wynne Neill, who took to social media to express that this had been a “dream assignment”.

“I have been wanting this and working towards this for so many years. I’m so proud of Elliot and I am so grateful to the trans elders who risked everything to make this moment happen,” Neill said in his caption.

Elliot Page was born Ellen Page and acted under that name in numerous films. Page said he expected the news that he was transgender to receive both support and hatred.

“What I was anticipating was a lot of support and love, and a massive amount of hatred and transphobia,” Page told Time.

TOP SURGERY CHANGED PAGE’S LIFE

The X-Men: The Last Stand actor has undergone top surgery, which is a surgical procedure to remove breast tissue. Though surgery is not chosen by all transgender individuals, Elliot Page felt like his top surgery helped him finally recognise himself and be happy with what he saw in the mirror. He also spoke of the “total hell” of puberty and feeling uncomfortable in his body, which eventually resulted in the surgery.

“It has completely transformed my life,” Page told Time Magazine.

ELLIOT PAGE ON IDENTITY

Elliot Page made a huge impression on our screens in 2007 as the pregnant teenager in Juno. Page now stars in Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy and plays the role of Vanya Hargreeves in the popular series. The third season is now filming in Toronto, Canada.

Page said he had struggled for years between how the world saw him and how he saw himself, especially when watching himself in feminine roles.

“I just never recognised myself. For a long time I could not even look at a photo of myself,” Page told Time Magazine.

This led to him suffering from anxiety, depression and panic attacks.

Page said he didn’t know “how to explain to people that even though [I was] an actor, just putting on a T-shirt cut for a woman would make me so unwell”.

Elliot Page was attracted to the role of Vanya in The Umbrella Academy because the character is crushed by self-loathing, believing herself to be the only ordinary sibling in an extraordinary family.

” I related to how much Vanya was closed off,” he said.
