DANISH QUEEN APOLOGISES FOR THE HURT HER DECISION CAUSED

Queen Margrethe apologised to her family after stripping four of her grandchildren of their royal titles in a somewhat unprecedented move.

According to The Mirror, the monarch was ‘forced’ to apologise after “underestimating” her decision’s impact on her youngest son, Prince Joachim, and his family. The Queen removed the titles of the Prince’s four children.

Hello! reports the formal apology was penned after unprecedented criticism from within the Danish royal family, including Prince Joachim himself.

In a statement shared on the royal family’s official Instagram page, the Queen wrote:

“It is my duty and desire as Queen to ensure that the Monarchy is forever forming in pact with time. It sometimes requires making difficult decisions and finding the right time will always be difficult. To wear a royal title entails a number of obligations and tasks, which will in the future restrain fewer members of the royal family.”

“This adjustment, which I see as a necessary assurance for the future of the Monarchy, I wish to make in my time. I have made my decision as a Queen, mother and grandmother, but as a mother and grandmother I have underestimated how much my youngest son and his family feel.”

She finished by adding: “This makes a big impression, and I’m sorry for that. No one should doubt that my children, in-laws and grandchildren are my great joy and pride. I hope now we as a family can find peace to get through this situation ourselves.”

DANISH QUEEN STRIPS SON’S CHILDREN OF HRH TITLES

According to Hello!, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie’s children and the Prince’s sons from his previous marriage have openly shared their disappointment regarding the Queen’s. She has stripped them of their Prince and Princess titles.

The decree took effect on 1 January. It means that Nikolai, 23, Felix, 20, Henrik, 13, and Athena, 11, are now only titled Count or Countess of Monpezat, the publication reports.

In a recent interview with the Danish broadsheet, Weekendavisen, the Queen explained her decision, saying:

“When I let go of the reins, he’s there. I am a link in a very long chain that continues, and I believe that he [Prince Frederik] will probably find that out,” she said.

“For me, it has been important that it should not be Frederik’s lot to make such a decision. It was better that it was me,” she added.
