Like many of his matches before, Cristiano Ronaldo and team Portugal’s match against Switzerland at the World Cup was a trending topic on Twitter.

But whilst the player and his team managed to secure a spot in the semi-finals, it was his evident lack on play on the pitch that had everyone talking.

Cristiano was not given a starting line-up in the match, and only entered the pitch in the second half of the competition. Instead, his replacement Gonçalo Ramos dominated the game with not one, but three goals!

Portugal won the match 6-1.

On Twitter, everyone seemed to have an opinion about Cristiano Ronaldo – including South African rapper AKA.

The local muso is a staunch supporter of Manchester United, the English premier league Cristiano formally played at. But that all changed following his bombshell interview with Piers Morgan last month, which AKA claimed was the football star “throwing a tantrum” about his experience there. In the following weeks, Manchester United cut ties with Ronaldo, who happily obliged.

The soccer star has since been linked to a deal with a Saudi Arabian club, which he has denied.

But the drama of his scathing attack on his former team, and its coach Erek ten Hag, has seemingly followed Cristiano Ronaldo into the World Cup match.

After being initially benched by the Portugal coach, AKA quipped that decision was “karma” for his “disgusting” interview.

He tweeted earlier: “CR7 broke my damn heart, and now he must pay” and “Nobody and nothing is bigger than Manchester United.”

He added in a series of shady tweets:

“Tell me why any coach in their right mind would start Ronaldo again for the rest of this tournament.”

“Portugal looking dangerous without the washed goat 🐐… CR7 must just prepare to wind down his career with FC ANAT FALAFEL or whatever.

“Ket, the lad G Ramos play! Out with the old, in with the new!”

“There we go … G RAMOS! The new RONALDO!”

Despite Cristiano Ronaldo not scoring a goal or getting a lengthy play time in the World Cup match against Switzerland, he praised team Portugal in an Instagram post.

He also showered the younger players with love – and hoped for the team to make it to the finals.

He captioned a clip of the team embracing after the match: “Amazing day for Portugal, with a historic result in the biggest contest in world soccer. Luxury exhibition by a team full of talent and youth. Congratulations to our national team. The dream is alive! To the very end! Come on, Portugal!”.
