The private funeral service for legendary actor and producer Shona Ferguson was held earlier today (4 August) in Ruimsig, Johannesburg, and was also live-streamed on YouTube.
Shona Ferguson died of COVID-19 related complications on Friday 30 July, just over a week after being admitted into Milpark Private Hospital in Johannesburg for breathing problems and chest pains.
CONNIE FERGUSON’S MOVING SPEECH
The Kings of Jo’Burg star’s death was just a day before he and his wife, veteran actress Connie Ferguson, would have celebrated 20 years together. The actress paid tribute to her husband in a heartfelt speech at the funeral service.
“I thought you and I were going to grow old together. That is what I saw for myself, that is what I saw for us. That has always been the dream,” said Connie Ferguson.
“31 July was exactly 20 years together, I anticipated another 20 years,” she continued.
Last moments with Shona
Connie Ferguson went on to detail the last few moments she spent with her husband.
“How I saw you at the hospital, how you fought. I want you to know how I am so proud of you. Even on your hospital bed, you defied the odds so many times. I am hurting right now, my heart is bleeding, I wasn’t ready to let you go,” she continued.

‘OUR LOVE DOES NOT DIE’
The Queen actress said that she believed God would heal Shona and although he is gone, their love will not die, but she will continue to love him in her heart.
“My husband loved hard and most importantly loved the Lord hard, unashamedly. Our love does not die, you continue on in my heart, in my children’s heart. Thank you, Shonie for everything,” said Connie.
“Some people thought we hated each other, but it was far different than that. The main thing was that he and I were so alike, how I look a lot like him,” she continued.
“He had no doubt that whatever I do, I was going to succeed,” she added.
