LYLE FOSTER IS SOUTH AFRICA’S PRICIEST PLAYER

Benni McCarthy was formerly the most expensive South African footballer ever when Celta Vigo paid Ajax €6m (R113 million) for his services. After Benni, Joburg-born playmaker Steven Pienaar was the second-most expensive when in 2011 he moved from Everton to Tottenham and fetched a fee of €3.6m (R67.6 million). The guaranteed fee that Burnley will pay to Westerlo for Kyle Foster’s services has shattered the record held by Benni since 1999. The Clarets will be a Premier League outfit next season. As a result, on top of the €7m they paid for Foster upfront, they’re also coughing up €4m of add-ons.

Foster’s move will amount to a staggering R218 million.

Foster started Burnley’s 2-2 draw last time out against Rotherham, and will be hoping to be named in the starting XI again for tomorrow’s clash with QPR. At least now we know he’s been taking a Lamborghini to the Burnley training ground at Barnfield.
