Will Smith is facing the consequences of his actions following the highly publicised and viral Oscars slap that he gave to Chris Rock on 27 March.

Reports suggest that he’s been hit where it hurts most as giant streaming platforms Netflix and Apple+ pull out of bidding to work with him on his upcoming biopic. The movie is said to be based on his best-selling memoir, titled Will.

In addition, his movies Bad Boys 4 and Fast and Loose have reportedly also been put on the back burner.

EIGHT-FIGURE BID FOR WILL SMITH BIOPIC

According to The Sun, Will Smith was in an eight-figure bidding war for the rights to turn his lifestyle into a movie.

“Several streaming services are fighting to secure the go-ahead to make the film and he is looking at an eight-figure sum for the rights,” reported the publication on 11 March.

NETFLIX AND APPLE+ PULL OUT

However, a source has revealed that two of those platforms are no longer in the bid.

“Netflix and Apple+ have quietly removed their bids for a Will Smith biopic and will instead relocate the funds and develop original ideas from new black actors,” a source revealed to The Sun.

The source also added that “working with Will has become a risky business”.

It is reported that the streaming giants are now planning on developing ideas with more “family-friendly” stars like Mike Epps and Michael B Jordan.

‘FAST AND LOOSE’, ‘BAD BOYS 4′ PUT ON HOLD

When it rains it pours for the King Richard actor as it has also been revealed by The Hollywood Reporter that director David Leitch detached himself from the Netflix project Fast and Loose.

Although he did this before the infamous incident at the Oscars, it is likely that Leitch (who’s also worked on Deadpool) would have made the decision anyway.

The publication also reported that another film project — Sony’s Bad Boys 4 — has been put on hold due to the recent events.

WILL SMITH RESIGNATION

Will Smith has had a controversial week since assaulting Chris Rock for making a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair loss condition, alopecia.

Following a lot of criticism and regret, the 53-year-old who won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in King Richard at the Oscars, decided it was time to resign from the Academy.

“I am resigning from membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and will accept any further consequences the Board deems appropriate,” his statement on Friday 1 April read.
