In an excerpt from his memoir, American actor Will Smith revealed that he contemplated killing his father to “avenge” his mother for the abuse she endured.

WILL SMITH REVEALS HIS FATHER WAS ‘VIOLENT’

Will Smith’s memoir Will is set to be released on 9 November. In an excerpt from the memoir published by People, the Bad Boys star revealed that he thought about killing his father to avenge his mother for the abuse she suffered.

Will explained that his early life in Philadelphia with his parents, Willard Carroll Smith Sr. and his mother Caroline Bright affected his relationship with his father later on. The Men in Black star cared for his father while he was battling cancer.

He said although his father was violent, he was always supportive of him.

“My father was violent, but he was also at every game, play, and recital. He was an alcoholic, but he was sober at every premiere of every one of my movies. He listened to every record. He visited every studio,” he wrote.

Will thereafter mentions a violent incident when his father abused his mother. The pair split when he was a teen and divorced in 2000.

“When I was nine years old, I watched my father punch my mother in the side of the head so hard that she collapsed. I saw her spit blood,” he continued.

WILL ON THE ‘DARKNESS’ THAT AROSE’ WITHIN HIM

The Gemini Man star then revealed that while caring for his elderly father, he contemplated wheeling him down a flight of stairs.

“One night, as I delicately wheeled him from his bedroom toward the bathroom, a darkness arose within me. The path between the two rooms goes past the top of the stairs. As a child I’d always told myself that I would one day avenge my mother,” wrote Will.

However, he was able to stop his dark thoughts quickly and continued to wheel his father to the bathroom.

“I paused at the top of the stairs. I could shove him down, and easily get away with it. As the decades of pain, anger, and resentment coursed then receded, I shook my head and proceeded to wheel Daddio to the bathroom,” he continued.

Smith Sr. died of cancer in 2016. Reflecting on his life and inner peace, Will went on to say that it doesn’t matter how much you are loved, the way you love is more important.

“There is nothing that you can receive from the material world that will create inner peace or fulfillment. In the end, it will not matter one single bit how well [people] loved you — you will only gain ‘the smile’ based on how well you loved them,” he added.

This follows Will admitting to have suicidal thoughts while his wife Jada Pinkett Smith has been yet again, revealing intimate details of their sex life.
