Bernard Arnault: 5 things to know about the world’s 2nd richest man

CEO and Chairman of LVMH (Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton) Bernard Arnault has dropped to the world’s second richest person after South African-born billionaire Elon Musk reclaimed his title as the world’s richest person, according to Bloomberg’s Billionaire Index. Here’s five things to know about Arnault.

ELON MUSK THE WORLD’S RICHEST MAN ONCE AGAIN 

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has reclaimed his spot as the World’s Richest Person on Monday 27 February. In December 2022, Musk lost his spot as the World’s Richest Person as LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault took over. 

However, Musk’s net worth is now worth more than that of Arnault sitting at $187.1 billion (R3.4 trillion). According to Bloomberg, Tesla stock lifted the billionaire back to the top of their real-time Billionaires Index. Musk is just R2 billion ahead of Arnault, whose net worth is R185 billion, which also equates to R3.4 trillion in rands.

1. HIS RICHES STEM FROM LVMH

Bernard Arnault is the chairman, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of LVMH (Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton) – which is the world’s largest luxury goods company.

According to the Index, the billionaires wealth predominantly stems from his 97.5% stake in Christian Dior, which controls an estimated 41% of LVMH.

2. ARNAULT’S NET WORTH IS A WHOPPING $185 BILLION

According to the Bloomberg Billionaire’s Index, Arnault is worth $189 billion (R3.4 trillion).

3. HE WAS MARRIED TWICE 

The billionaire has been married twice – Anne Dewavrin from 1979 – 1990. The pair have two children together – Antoine and Delphine. In 1991, Arnault married Hélène Mercier. The pair have three children together Alexandre, Frédéric and Jean.

4. ARNAULT IS A DAD OF FIVE 

The world’s richest man has a total of five children. According to Hindustan Times, all his children currently work at the LVMH firm or one of it’s brands.

Antoine, who is Arnalt’s second child, recently got an expanded role at Christian Dior SE – the holding company.

5. ARNAULT IS 73 AND BORN IN FRANCE

The LVMH CEO was born in Roubaix,  a city in the north of France in 1949. So, he is 73 years old. He graduated from engineering school École Polytechnique.
