From 702 to Hot 91.9 FM. Here’s five hings to know about 59-year-old radio legend Jeremy Mansfield, who died on Monday morning .

Former 702 and Hot 91.9 FM radio legend Jeremy Mansfield died on Monday, 31 October after battling stage four liver cancer.

JEREMY MANSFIELD LOSES BATTLE TO CANCER   

The talented radio personality Jeremy Mansfield, who was popularly known for his shows on 702, Hot 91.9 FM lost his battle to liver cancer according to his former colleague Samantha Cowen, in a statement on Monday morning.   

“This morning a light went out in the world. Jeremy Mansfield passed away just before dawn. He died peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends and boundless love.” 

Here are five things to know about the talented radio personality:

  1. HE WAS BORN IN EASTERN CAPE  

According to TVSA, Jeremy Mansfield was born in Grahamstown, educated at Kingswood College and then Rhodes University where he majored in Speech, Drama, and Journalism in 1985.

2. HIS RADIO CAREER  

According to News24, Mansfield began his radio career on Capital Radio 604 in 1985. TVSA adds that he formed his own media liaison, communications, and promotions company after leaving Capital Radio.   

He began freelancing for the Sports Department of Radio 702 in 1922 and was offered the Saturday Afternoon Magazine Programme as a regular feature in 1993.  

His starring break came in 1995 when he took up the reins of the 702-afternoon show, the first hour of which he co-hosted with Jenny Crwys-Williams. Mansfield moved to the newly-owned, new-look independent Highveld Stereo in January 1997 to host the breakfast show, “The Rude Awakening”.  

  1.  AT THE TIME OF HIS DEATH  

News24 adds that Mansfield hung up his headphones for the final time when he left Hot 91.9FM in 2021 and he was the lead host of his YouTube show, Mansfield2day at the time of his death.

4. HIS FAMILY  

Mansfield is survived by his wife, Jacqui, and his daughter, Gabriella. His mother died on 15 August, which was also his 59th birthday.  

  1. HIS BATTLE WITH CANCER  

The radio personality announced in January that he was diagnosed with liver cancer and revealed in August on Facebook that his diagnosis was terminal, vowing to “have as much fun in the time I have left and fulfill as many dreams, big and small, I have in my bucket list”.  

Mansfield made his first appearance on social media in October since the terminal diagnosis, to thank fans for their well-wishes and to share an update on his health, saying he has “up and down” days.
