Mourners have gathered at Lewende Woord in Centurion, Gauteng, to pay tribute to amapiano pioneer and businessman DJ Sumbody — real name Oupa John Sefoka — who was gunned down on Sunday, 20 November, at the age of 38.

The Monate Mpolaye hitmaker and Ayepyep Lifestyle co-owner was murdered along with one of his bodyguards in a hail of bullets in Woodmead, Johannesburg while on his way to a gig in the early hours of Sunday.

FUNERAL SERVICE DETAILS

The Sefoka family also announced that his burial will take place on Saturday in his home province, Limpopo, at Ga-Masemola, Apel Fourways Cross at 07:00.

“A lover of people and bringing premium experiences in the hood, his Veuve Clicquot All White parties were a testament of his passion of bringing culture, lifestyle, good music and showcasing amazing talent,” read parts of the statement.

TRIBUTES STILL POURING IN FOR THE AMAPIANO PIONEER

Tributes and messages of comfort have been pouring in since the sad passing of the musician who was referred to as “the Mayor of Pitori” by his fans.

Rapper Cassper Nyovest, who was also good friends with DJ Sumbody and collaborated with him on tracks such as Monate Mpolaye, shared a video of the late star on the set of his Billiato advert.

“My beautiful brother, Ntja ya Kota! You broke my heart. I won’t lie, ha ke shapo (I’m not OK). You had big plans,” he wrote.

In another post he wrote: “Sometimes you called me Diddy, sometimes you called me Kanye. I still don’t know which one I prefer but I know one thing for sure, the bond we shared was special.“You were always there for me and I was always there for you. I really can’t take the pain and I pray for healing, acceptance and understanding. Pelo yaka e botloko [My heart is sore] SumB. ANEVA JO! [There’s no way, bro!]”

Singer Lady Zamar wrote: “This is super shocking💔 and heartbreaking to the core… sumbody looked out for his ppl, never held grudges and was welcoming, funny, a hustler and game changer in entertainment and in many ppls lives + he gave great advice… mfana pitori.”
