Lionel Messi’s wife Antonela Roccuzzo was joined by the other wives and girlfriends of Argentina’s footballers, who rushed onto the Qatari pitch on Sunday night (18 December) to congratulate their World Cup heroes, kiss the trophy and take selfies.

Argentina’s Angel Di Maria also shared a passionate kiss with his wife Jorgelina Cardoso and celebrated with his children at Qatar’s 2022 trophy ceremony. The rest of the Argentine wives and girlfriends also took selfies on the pitch and kissed the trophy to share the moment of glory.

Argentina won the FIFA World Cup trophy after beating France 4-2 on penalties. France came from behind when Kylian Mbappe scored a hattrick to end the match in a 3-3 draw.

Legendary soccer player Lionel Messi kissed the golden trophy and was soon joined by his wife Antonela Roccuzzo, who is his most loyal supporter.

Daily Mail reports that Roccuzzo grasped the golden trophy with both hands, and kissed it with her eyes closed after her husband Messi achieved his lifelong dream.

But the mood was different for France, as the heartbroken French players were seen leaving the field as soon as possible, leaving their wives and girlfriends partners to comfort them and pick up the pieces of their shattered dreams of winning the 2022 World Cup.

“We were too reactive,” captain Hugo Lloris tells cbbsport post-game. “It was like a boxing game. Our only regret is that we let the first half pass us by. Despite that, we did not give up and continued to believe right up until the end. Penalties are always cruel for the losing side. We gave everything from start to finish and we come away totally spent after a month of fighting.”

“We are very disappointed,” added Varane after the final whistle. “We gave everything. We were up against a lot this tournament, but we fought until the end. We never gave up and we were not even in this game for over an hour. We might have won it too. I am very proud of this squad — we can hold our heads up high.”
