RIP: Veteran sports presenter Aaron ‘Shadow’ Mbonani dies

SABC confirms that Ikwekwezi FM sports presenter Aaron “Shadow” Mbonani also known as Ganadlha has died at the age of 63.

The 63-year-old Aaron “Shadow” Mbonani, a former sports presenter at SABC’s Ikwekwezi FM died in Limpopo.

AARON MBONANI DIES

Sunday World reports that the 63-year-old sports presenter Aaron “Shadow” Mbonani passed away on Monday, 2 January at Philadelphia Hospital in Dennilton, Limpopo following a short illness.

Mbonani, who fans affectionately called Ganadlha was among the first group of presenters of Radio Ndebele which first launched in 1983. 

The Ndebele station which is now known as Ikwekwezi FM is the only radio station broadcasting in isiNdebele. Mbonani retired from the SABC radio station in March 2021.

Tributes for the sports radio personality are pouring in from Ikwekwezi FM listeners, and details regarding his final will be announced by his family.

The SABC has extended its condolences to the family and fans of Mbonani: “His immense contribution to the entertainment industry will never be forgotten,” said the SABC in a statement.
