South African actress Baby Cele, previously known as Baby Cele-Maloka, has spoken candidly about her divorce from businessman Thabo Maloka.

The House of Zwide actress and sangoma had a sit-down with Lungelo KM on the Engineer Your Life podcast where she explained that her marriage to Maloka ended two years ago.

Cele had been married twice before her last marriage. Her first marriage was with a man she described as a monster because he was abusive towards her. Meanwhile, her second marriage was in 2009 to Mandla Mabuza.

The 50-year-old actress and her ex-husband met through the sister of actress Thembi Mtshali in the mid 2000s. The couple got married in 2017.

However, two years ago, their marriage came crumbling down and she says she has been going through the healing process privately.

“I have mastered divorce, honestly, it doesn’t hurt anymore because I just believe that if a marriage no longer works it should end,” Cele said.

“As a sangoma, my ancestors gave me all the signs that it was time to end the marriage, I was really happy but the signs were too loud and I had to make the decision. Right now I am single and mingling and I am happy.”

According to the mom-of two, humans are not monogamous in nature and she believes that it is high time middle-aged married people accept that.

In the same interview, Cele delved into her spiritual journey.

The actress shared that she constantly takes breaks from her spititual duties as a sangoma and healer because some “clients” are not genuine. She said that some people book appointments under the guise of clients in need of help, when they actually just want to see Gabisile — her character in Uzalo.

In addition, she spoke about her longevity in the acting industry; sharing the secret to remaining consistent and never unemployed.

“You have to honour your contract, negotiate well and respect your job. Other actors are out of work all the time and complain about the industry because they get to set and become complacent.

“Some people don’t know their lines, some people think because they have 1 million followers that the show depends on them or they are bigger than the show. The industry doesn’t work like that,” Cele explained.
