Basop! Tweeps warn DJ Maphorisa about the Diale’s and Mabaso’s

South African actress-turned-DJ Thulisile Phongolo and DJ Maphorisa—real name Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe made headlines over the past weekend after it was alleged that the couple had gotten into a physical altercation in Johannesburg which had Twitter users’ jaws-dropped and adding their two cents in their affairs.

TWITTER USERS REACT TO DJ MAPHORISA AND THULI PHONGOLO DRAMA

According to several publications, the couple which had kept their relationship on the low broke the news that they were in fact in a relationship to their fans after a case of assault was opened at a police station in Sandton. It was reported that the physical altercation took place at an apartment on Sunday, 7 May. According to a statement seen by Sunday World, 29-year-old Phongolo said,

“I confronted him so that we can talk about an argument that happened the previous night during his gig. He held me and took me to the balcony, and grabbed me aggressively by my neck.”

By Monday, 8 May, Maphorisa appeared before the Randburg Magistrates on gender-based violence-related charges. Meanwhile, Phongolo was seen outside the court and reportedly filed a withdrawal statement and had the Ba Straata hitmaker get out on R4 000 bail, Daily Sun reported.

In light of the withdrawal statement, the case has been remanded to 14 June 2023. In the meantime, DJ Maphorisa was reportedly told to stay away from Phongolo. It was said that the 30-year-old Abalele hitmaker pleaded for his girlfriend to be allowed to pick up her things at his place.

Amid the lover’s legal drama, Twitter users joked that DJ Maphorisa be reminded about his girlfriend’s former onscreen family. Twitter users joked among themselves as they warned DJ Maphorisa that his girlfriend, the former Generation: The Legacy actress was born into the Diale family, and her uncle Cosmo, her mother Lucy, and her father Jack Mabaso were not people that he’d want to mess with.
