Ghanaian footballer Christian Atsu – who plays for Hatayspor – has been pulled out of the rubble after surviving a deadly earthquake in Turkey.

The death toll in a devastating earthquake that struck both Turkey and Syria has risen to over 4000 people. But escaping with his life is a well-known footballer Christian Atsu of Ghana.

The soccer star, who plays for the Turkish club Hatayspor, was found alive under the rubble of a collapsed building in the province of Hatay. However, his Turkish club colleague Tanur Savut  – the club’s sporting director – is still missing.

Christian is previously played for UK clubs Newcastle, Everton, and Chelsea.

TURKEY: SOCCER PLAYERS FOUND, BOSS STILL UNACCOUNTED FOR

According to Hatayspor vice president Mustafa Ozat, Christian Atsu had been safely located after being reported missing on Monday afternoon following the earthquake in Turkey.

He told Turkish media: “Christian Atsu was removed from the wreckage with injuries”.

However, Ozat revealed a search and rescue mission was still ongoing for another club employee.

He added: “Unfortunately, our sporting director Taner Savut is still under the rubble.”

Fellow Hatayspor teammates Burak Oksuz, Bertuf Yildirim, Kerim Alici, coach Osman Ates, and technical director Ekrem Ekdioglu have also been confirmed safe after they were pulled from collapsed buildings in Kahramanmaras, reports Yahoo Sports.

OZIL, SALAH, AND HAKIMI OFFER UP PRAYERS

Meanwhile, German soccer player Mesut Ozil – whose parents are from Turkey – has offered prayers for those missing after the deadly earthquake.

The former Real Madrid player, who is now based in Istanbul, tweeted: “My prayers are with everyone who has been affected by the earthquake in Turkey.”

Moroccan player Achraf Hakimi, who plays for PSG, also shared his best wishes, as did Liverpool’s Mo Salah of Egypt.
