‘I never stop watching it’: Tony Forbes on son AKA’s murder footage

Tony and Lynn Forbes, who are slain rapper AKA’s parents, are finding it difficult to come to terms with his death.

In an interview with You Magazine, more than two months after his passing, the Forbeses opened up about the Lemons (Lemonade) hitmaker’s brutal murder.

AKA’S PARENTS TONY AND LYNN FORBES ON HIS MURDER FOOTAGE

AKA — real name Kiernan Jarryd Forbes — was gunned down on 10 February in Durban. The musician was standing outside Wish on Florida Road when two gunmen opened fire on him and his team. His friend and celebrity chef Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane also lost his life during the shooting.

A day after their death, harrowing CCTV footage of the assassination was shared across all social media platforms.

AKA’s father, Tony, told You that he still watches the footage.

“I never stop watching it, but I’m not sure if that’s good for me.

“I’m not investigating any­thing. A part of me just wants to know more about that last moment of his life. Rewatching it is my way of being there,” Tony was quoted as saying.

AKA’s mother, Lynn, says watching the footage is too difficult for her so she avoids it.

“I want to remember him as a light. He was a good person who brought such a light to us.”

The ex-couple said their biggest worry is the CCTV footage ending up in their granddaughter Kairo Forbes’ hands. Seven-year-old Kairo is AKA and Ntombizinhle “DJ Zinhle” Jiyane’s daughter.

LYNN SHARES HELPFUL AND UNHELPFUL COMENTS WHEN MOURNING

Last month, Lynn — who is also known as Glammy — expressed that some days are better than others as she continues to mourn her son.

“I miss you so much Kiernan.

“Some days I’m a warrior. Some days I’m a broken mess. Most days I’m a bit of both, but every day I have to be here Standing. Fighting. Trying,” Glammy wrote on Instagram alongside a video of her and AKA.

“The most helpful thing anyone has said to me during this painful time … ‘Whatever you are feeling, and whenever you are feeling it …. it’s OK’.

In addition, Lynn shared five of the most unhelpful well-intended comments not to say to a person who has lost a loved one. They are:

• How are you feeling?
• At least he didn’t suffer
• It was God’s plan
• God never gives you more than you can handle
• Be strong
