‘The Kingdom’ actor Thapelo Maropefela will be laid to rest on Friday and remembered in a memorial service on Thursday after his brutal death over the weekend allegedly at the hands of security guards.

Thapelo Maropefela had his life cut short after he died from injuries relating to a brutal assault on the eve of his birthday.

The Kingdom actor who played the role of Kagiso, was allegedly beaten by a group of security guards over the weekend in Maboneng, Johannesburg, on 24 October.

The young soapie star would have turned 25 a day later and according to Zalebs, his sister Kamo Maropefela revealed that she and her family was preparing to celebrate his birthday at their home for the very first time.

THAPELO MAROPEFELA ‘BRUTALLY’ MURDERED

According to Thapelo Maropefela’s uncle Glen Masokoana, the rising star was fatally injured after he was assaulted with heavy objects.

He told Daily Sun: “He was brutally assaulted by security guards in Maboneng. They bludgeoned him causing grievous bodily harm. He died from the wounds inflicted on him.”

No further details of the incident are yet known.

ACTOR’S FAMILY CELEBRATE HIM ON HIS BIRTHDAY

Despite his untimely demise, Thapelo Maropefela’s family celebrated his life on his 25th birthday. His sister Kamo shared a bittersweet tribute to him on her social media pages.

“Nana, I’m so sorry. Your story was not meant to end now. Not on the eve of your 25th birthday.

“We are hurt. Cut deep. Empty. But we will try to celebrate you in our mourning.

“So difficult for me to say Rest easy, because it wasn’t your time to rest yet! We think of you today, and forever. May your spirit find peace.

“I love you so much. Till we meet again, Sthape. Happy Birthday, little bro.”

Thapelo’s uncle recalled the sweet nature of Thapelo.

“We will miss his infectious smile and calmness in difficult situations. We can’t believe we’ve lost such a promising young actor.

“At 25, he has achieved beyond our imagination. He was passionate about his talent and focused on mastering it. He loved his family and friends so much, gave the biggest hugs and the brightest smile.”

THAPELO MAROPEFELA MEMORIAL DETAILS

Thapelo Marofela will be laid to rest in a funeral service on Friday 29 October at the Anglican Church in Mohlakeng, Randfontein.

His memorial service – which is open to the public with limited seating – will take place later today (Thursday), also at the Mohlakeng’s Anglican Church from 14:00 to 16:00.

Thereafter another public memorial service will take place at Cape Town’s AFDA campus, located in Observatory. Guests are encouraged to wear blue and bring a candle.
