South Africans took to Twitter to pay tribute to Tina Turner, who was known as the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll, after she tragically passed away on Wednesday 24 May.

“This is going to be a Tina Turner on-repeat weekend. Singers never die. Their voices are eternal; their songs infused into our lives. Beside the ‘The Best’ – my favourites were Proud Mary, and Private Dancer. What a life; what a legend. RIP Queen of Rock,” wrote @suntoshpillay.

“Rest in peace Tina Turner. You were simply the best! 🕊️,” wrote @PhumlaniDube.

“Tina Turner has died aged 83. Rest well Queen of Rock, you were Simply The Best,” wrote @AndileAndyDube.

TINA TURNER DIES AT 83: WHAT HAPPENED? 

The iconic singer, known for her hits such as Simply The Best, passed away on Wednesday 24 May announced via a statement on her official Instagram account. Take a look…

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner. With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow,” read the post.

“Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly,” read the post.

According to Page Six, she died at her home in Küsnacht near Zurich, Switzerland, after a long illness. The iconic artist was known to have had a battle with cancer since 2016. She was 83 at the time of her death.

Tina first shot to fame as part of the Ike and Turner Revue alongside her first husband Ike Turner.
