Following the abuse allegations made against media personality Somizi Mhlongo by his estranged husband, actor Mohale Motaung, social media users have taken to Twitter to air their thoughts and it seems many are labelling the Rockville actor as a gold digger while defending the Idols SA judge.

MOHALE CLAIMS SOMIZI WAS PHYSICALLY ABUSIVE

Sunday World reported that Mohale Motaung has spoken out about being in a physically abusive marriage with Somizi Mhlongo. The media outlet cited an interview that Mohale did with the producers of Somizi’s show Living the Dream with Somizi.

Mohale reportedly claims that Somizi once threatened him with a knife, broke his ribs and almost knocked out two of his teeth in a jealousy fueled violent domestic dispute in their Johannesburg home last year.

Somizi responded to these claims saying that given the severity of the allegations he has referred the matters to his legal team acknowledging the Sunday World report.

“Given the severity of the allegations, Mr. Mhlongo has referred this matter to his legal team who are best equipped to handle the matter going forward,” according to the statement on behalf of Somizi released via entertainment reporter Phil Mphela’s twitter account on 1 August.

‘DEFENDING THEIR FAVOURITE NOT THE VICTIM’

Following the abuse allegations the estranged couple trended on Twitter sparking a conversation of abuse in queer communities as many continued to label Mohale as a “gold digger” asking why he got married or stayed in an abusive marriage while defending Somizi although he has been accused of physical abuse.

Here is a look at Tweeps victim blaming the Rockville actor.

Many were also surprised that the estranged couple got married in a community of property. However, according to Sunday World all Mohale wanted from the marriage is his clothes and a car as he claims Somizi damaged his car.

“All I wanted is a car and my clothes because he damaged my car,” said Mohale to Sunday World, noting he would only fight for the division of the estate if Mhlongo did not comply with his demand.

This did not sit well with many Tweeps as they called for the same treatment to be given to Somizi as television presenter Katlego Maboe who was involved in a cheating scandal and DJ Black Coffee who was also accused of abuse by actress Enhle Mbali as well as DJ Fresh who was accused of rape.

CONVERSATION OF ABUSE IN QUEER RELATIONSHIPS

This sparked a conversation of abuse within queer relationships.

Tweeps also shared a picture of Mohale’s emotional face on his wedding day as they view his reaction in a different context following the allegations of abuse. A video of Somizi being a “bully” to Mohale was also shared to Twitter.
