Media personality Somizi Mhlongo is rumoured to return to Idols SA for season 18 after he was put on “time off” for the abuse allegations made against him by his estranged husband Mohale Motaung.

WILL SOMIZI RETURN TO ‘IDOLS SA’?

Somizi Mhlongo is set to return to Idols SA season 18 according to City Press. This is reportedly because of the drop in viewers since the media personality was put on time off. Somizi’s fans also stated that they “could not watch without him” on Twitter.

“Somizi has been given the green light because he is obviously the life of the show. There was a huge difference when he was not on the show, in terms of declining viewership. So he will be making a return this season after he was given a break last year (2021) to sort out his personal issues,” said a source to City Press.

Somizi is allegedly back in but radio personality Unathi Nkayi may not return for season 18. This is reportedly because of her altercation with her colleague Sizwe Dhlomo.

“He is coming back and now his number one rival on the show is going out. That should show you how powerful that guy is in the industry,” said a source to City Press.

WHY SOMGAGA WAS PUT ON ‘TIME OFF’?

Somizi was put on time off because of the abuse allegations made against him by his estranged husband Mohale Motaung. This resulted in Multichoice putting Somizi on an indefinite “time off” but he did not return for the rest of the season.

“M-Net and Somizi Mhlongo met to discuss his role on Idols in light of the allegations made against him. We have reached a mutual agreement that Somizi Mhlongo will take some time off to deal with his personal circumstances until this matter has been resolved,” said MultiChoice in a statement at the time.

“Viewers will still see Somizi Mhlongo on their screens until Sunday 22 August 2021, as the audition shows for Idols were pre-recorded,” Multichoice continued.
