Media personality Somizi Mhlongo’s role as a judge on Idols SA is slipping into uncertain waters following the physical abuse allegations made against him by his estranged husband, actor Mohale Motaung.

MOHALE’S ALLEGATIONS OF ABUSE

Somizi and Mohale’s marriage has been on shaky ground for some time now with speculation of divorce. Although the couple covered up the divorce rumours, a report by Sunday World revealed Mohale’s claims of physical abusive against Somizi. In one incident he says Somizi broke his ribs and two teeth in a rage at their home.

Somizi responded to the claims saying that he will be handing over the matter to his legal team due to the severity of the situation. Following the abuse allegations was a leak of the audio clips between Mohale and and the producers of Living the Dream with Somizi where he detailed the “arrangement” they had regarding an open marriage as well as Somizi sabotaging his relationship with the Feguson’s and acting gigs.

In the aftermath of the revelations made in the leaked clips and social media users calling for Somizi to be treated the same way Katlego Maboe, DJ Fresh were. Metro FM announced that Somizi will be taking some time off. The radio station said that this was by Somizi’s request and entertainment reporter Phil Mphela stated that Somizi will not be paid during his break as he is a freelancer.

While Metro FM claims Somizi is just taking “some time off” from his radio show, The Bridge alongside Dineo Ranaka and the Naked DJ, Multichoice has responded to the claims saying they are aware of the abuse allegations and therefore giving them the attention they deserve. This means that Somizi’s role on Idols SA may be in jeopardy.

“We are aware of the allegations made against Somizi Mhlongo. As a strong proponent of a violence-free South Africa, we view these allegations seriously and are giving them the attention they deserve,” said Multichoice in a statement.

This follows the plagiarism controversy Multichoice and Somizi are caught up over allegations that they copied the concept for Somizi’s cooking show, Dinner at Somizi’s from another creative, Hastings Moeng.
