The entertainment industry has been given another blow after it was reported that actor Siyanda Sesimani has died on Friday 11 March.

According to close friend Zola Hashatsi, the Soul City star died before he was to undergo surgery this coming Monday which would also have been the actor’s birthday. This, after he was allegedly brutally beaten in a mysterious attack last week and admitted to hospital for medical treatment.

The family of the actor have yet to release a statement. Details of the attack are also unknown at this stage.

The actor’s death follows the death of award-winning hip-hop DJ Boitumelo Mooi, popularly known as DJ Dimplez, earlier this week due to brain haemorrhage. He was laid to rest on Friday.

Taking to his Instagram account, TV presenter Zola Hashatsi announced that Siya Sesimani had died.

Alongside a picture of the actor, Zola wrote: “Sad to announce the passing of my dear friend Siyanda Siya Sesimani @siyasesimani

“He’s been fighting for his life in hospital after he was attacked and beaten to a pulp. He was meant to go for surgery on Monday (his birthday).

“He was a son, a brother, a friend and a father. May his beautiful soul rest in peace”.

Siyanda — who has also worked on TV productions Ikhaya, iSithembiso and The Estate — leaves behind a three-year-old daughter.

Fellow actors Lerato Mvelase, Connie Chiume and Salama Mosese expressed their shock in the comments section of Hashatsi’s post.

Production company Clive Morris Productions also shared some of the pictures from his scenes on The Estate.

‘Soul City’ fame

Siyanda won the hearts of many when he portrayed Mandla on the critically acclaimed, award-winning SABC 1 edutainment drama Soul City. He joined the show during its 11th season and soon became a household name with a devoted fan base.

Siyanda Sesimani’s death comes in the wake of numerous other celebs who have tragically died this year, including Riky Rick, Kuli Roberts, DJ Citi Lyts and Patrick Shai.

This is a developing story.
