‘Struggled with doubts’: Siya Kolisi admits to fears amid knee injury

Springboks captain Siya Kolisi has admitted to feeling fearful following a knee operation, just months before the Rugby World Cup kick off.

With uncertainty over his appearance at the Rugby World Cup later this year amid a knee injury, Springboks captain Siya Kolisi has decided to place his faith over his fears.

The beloved hero shared an inspirational post following his emergency operation in April. Siya’s surgery comes after he tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during his final Sharks match against Munster in Durban.

According to AFP, the surgery comes mere months before the kick-off of the Rugby World Cup in France in September.

SIYA KOLISI ON ATTITUDE SHIFT POST SURGERY

On Sunday, 21 May, Siya Kolisi shared an inspirational post about overcoming his fears and anxieties ahead of the Rugby World Cup.

He posted: “After my injury and surgery, I struggled with doubts, had many questions, and my peace was unsettled. Negative thoughts threatened to consume me because my focus was on the problem.

However, Siya claimed that a “shift” changed his mindset.

He continued: “I realised that in times of uncertainty, it is important to keep my gaze on the things that are unchanging. I’ve been intentionally keeping my focus on God, the one who is in control. I’ve learned to trust that this is a time of pruning, shaping me to be stronger and more resilient.

“I still have tough moments on this journey, but I embrace the future, full of potential and hope, focusing on what truly matters”.

Siya – a devout Christian – also shared a Bible verse to encourage his fans.

It’s not the first time, Siya Kolisi has spoken out about leaning on his faith. Just days after his knee operation, he revealed that he was trusting in God for a full recovery.

With fears that Siya may miss out on the Rugby World Cup, he shared the following message: “So instead of spending my time worrying or complaining about the things I lack, I find peace knowing that if it’s for me, then I’m not going to miss it”.

RUGBY WORLD CUP AND NEW CLUB

According to AFP, Siya Kolisi’s surgery could see him sit out of rugby for up to nine months, and likely ruling him out of the World Cup.

The 20-nation competition will take place between 8 September and 28 October. 

Following the World Cup, Siya is expected to join his new club, French team Racing 92.
