Scammers use SA stars Ferguson & Linda Sibiya to swindle victims

Two SA celebrities have recently made headlines after their profiles were reportedly used to scam people of their hard-earned money.

Recently, radio and TV personality Linda Sibiya’s profile was reported to have gotten hijacked by wicked scammers who are now said to be mischievously conning unsuspecting victims using his face, ZiMoja reported.

WAS LINDA SIBIYA’S PROFILE STOLEN?

Sibiya reportedly discovered his profile was stolen after some angry online victims were scammed into believing that he had failed to deliver iPhones and cars that they had purchased from him. A friend of Sibiya’s was also said to have reached out to the experienced radio personality whose popular for being part of Ukhozi FM’s team and asked him about some of the items he was believed to be selling on Facebook which he reportedly had no clue about.

According to the publication, one of the falsely advertised items under the radio personality’s false profile was a Ford with a price tag of R38 000. Sibiya was quoted as saying,

“Bakwethu (my people) this is a fake account: Lomuntu uzenza mina (this person is pretending to be me). I will report this account futhi (and) we are tracing lomuntu (this person).”

WAS CONNIE FERGUSON’S PROFILE STOLEN?

Meanwhile, in another con story, some Forex traders were said to have defrauded unsuspecting newbie investors of their hard-earned cash. In doing so, they were said to have posed as South African actress and Film producer Connie Ferguson, Sunday World reported.

The iconic Generations actress reportedly received an urgent application for a court interdict after being cited by a woman known as Matokgo Elizabeth Makutoane. Makutoane reportedly fell into a trap after seeing an investment opportunity on a Facebook page using Ferguson’s picture as their profile. In the application seen by the publication, the Joburg woman reportedly detailed how she had been swindled off thousands of rands. She was said to have deposited almost R900K to her scammers.
