Thanks to inheritances and lucrative business initiatives, most royals boast a hefty bank balance. But the fortunes and net worth can run up to trillions within families. Here’s a look at the wealthiest families in the world, as per TheRichest.com.

Most aristocrats don’t have to worry about their finances. But as a family, their net worth can run into trillions.

Here’s a look at the world’s top five wealthiest families.

1. THE ROYAL FAMILY OF SAUDI ARABIA

Seen as the wealthiest family in the world, the Royal Family Of Saudi Arabia is worth a staggering $1.4 trillion (estimated at just shy of R25 trillion), TheRichest.com reports. According to reports, the family has been ruling Saudi Arabia since 1744. King Salman Alsaud, reportedly the wealthiest member of the family, heads the family.

2. THE ROYAL FAMILY OF KUWAIT

According to reports, the Royal Family of Kuwait has a net worth of $360 billion (about R6 trillion). As per the publication, the Al Sabah family, is headed by Sheikh Sabah IV Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the current emir of Kuwait.

The Al Sabah dynasty has ruled Kuwait since 1752 and has amassed its fortune by buying enormous stakes in about every major blue-chip company in the United States, as per the publication.

3. THE ROYAL FAMILY OF QATAR

Qatar is ruled by the Royal Family Of Qatar, led by Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani who became the emir in 2013. The family’s net worth is estimated at $335 billion (about R5.9 trillion) and has been ruling since the mid-19th century, The Sun reports. 

Their fortune comes from several investments in international real estate. This includes London’s Shard skyscraper, the UK’s capital Olympic village, and Harrod’s department store. The family also has stakes in New York’s Empire State Building, Barclays, British Airways, and Volkswagen.

4. THE ROYAL FAMILY OF ABU DHABI

The Al Nahyan dynasty is the ruling family of Abu Dhabi and is headed by Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He is the emir of Abu Dhabi and president of the United Arab Emirates since 2004, Bloomberg reports.

According to reports, the royal family of Abu Dhabi is worth a staggering $150 billion (estimated at R2 trillion). Their wealth is primarily thanks to oil and the emir’s extensive international property development.

5. THE BRITISH ROYAL FAMILY

Although often seen as one the most prominent and influential families, King Charles III and his family have a staggering $88 billion (about R1.5 trillion), according to Business Insider. The bulk of their wealth derives from the sovereign grant made from the crown estate and several real estate investments.
