RIP: Amapiano artist DJ Sumbody has died

The Sefoka family and Sumsounds Music Management have confirmed the sad passing of musician and businessman DJ Sumbody.

The South African music industry has woken up to news that amapiano musician Dj Sumbody has died.

According to a statement from his management, the Iyamemeza hitmaker — whose real name is Oupa John Sefoka — died in the early hours of Sunday morning, 20 November.

“Artist and Musician DJ Sumbody has died. Details of his untimely death cannot be released but the artist named Oupa John Sefoka allegedly ran into an unfortunate incident that led to his passing in the early hours of Sunday morning, 20 November 2022,” read the statement.

His management further shared that details surrounding his passing cannot be disclosed as investigations are still ongoing.

“The Sefoka family and Sumsounds Music Management have kindly requested privacy during this difficult time and will release a statement in due course.”

Details of DJ Sumbody’s funeral and memorial Service will also be released in due course.

THE MUSICIAN WAS ALLEGEDLY GUNNED DOWN

Although the Ayepyep Lifestyle co-owner’s management has refrained from revealing his cause of death due to an investigation, various sources on social media have revealed that he was gunned down.

Controversial podcast contributor and former music executive Nota Baloyi wrote: “Khuli Chana got shot by the cops… DJ Sumbody got shot by his opps [enemies].”

While Twitter account @MpumalangaPost shared a picture of a car riddled with bullets with the caption: “It alleged that our loved DJ Sumbody was gunned down last night with his two bodyguards at Woodmead, Gauteng.”
