Late rapper Riky Rick’s son Maik celebrates first birthday without father

A superhero-themed part was hosted for little Maik, the son of late rapper Riky Ricky, as he turned eight on Sunday.

Maik, the son of late rapper, entrepreneur and fashion icon Rikhado “Riky Rick” Makhado turned eight years old on Sunday 20 March and his family threw him a birthday party to celebrate.

It has been just under a month since the passing of the Ungazincishi hitmaker – who reportedly took his own life on 23 February – which means this is little Maik’s first birthday without his father.

Maik’s birthday party was themed “Fortnite Dream Team”, taken from an online superhero video game. The decor was cute and colourful with blue, purple and green balloons.

One of Maik’s aunts, reality TV star Mome Mahlangu, took to her social media to reflect on Riky Rick’s excitement when his wife, Bianca Naidoo, was pregnant with their son. 

“Today hit me hard, but Maik had a Happy 8th Birthday with lots of love and family. I just never imagined it without u this is going to be a tough new journey. I remember how excited and scared u were when B fell pregnant. I will keep praying for healing and strength to move on daily they say time heals all wounds, today we celebrate Maik 8…Thank you, Bianca for all u do sis.”

The late musician will be remembered for many things by many people, including the fact that he was a family man. The star never shied away from showing off his family to the public and expressing his love for them. His Instagram account was a reflection of his love for his family as he would often post videos and pictures of his children, which spoke to his relationship with them. 

In one of his hit songs, Sondela featuring vocalist Zano, he pays tribute to Maik. The music video, which was released in 2015, sees King Kotini being joined by actress Pearl Thusi and his son as he goes through the joys and struggles of fatherhood and being in a romantic relationship while in the spotlight.

Following the rapper’s passing, it was reported that his final letter to his family was leaked. In it he expressed his love for his family and had this to say to his son:

“Follow your passions my son. Your world is bigger than anything you could ever imagine. I love you!”
