Rest in peace André Leon Talley: Tributes pour in for Vogue legend

Kim Kardashian, Zendaya and more have paid tribute to Vogue’s first African American creative director, the late André Leon Talley.

Legend in the fashion industry André Leon Talley, who served as Vogue’s creative director and editor-at-large passed away on Tuesday 18 January at the age of 73. Tributes from celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Zendaya have been pouring in.

ANDRE LEON TALLEY PASSES AWAY AT 73 

Andre Leon Talley became the first African American creative director of Vogue in 1988. He died of an unknown illness at White Plains Hospital in New York. 

Talley’s death was confirmed by his friend Darren Walker, president of the Ford Foundation but also on his Instagram page.

“André Leon Talley was a singular force in an industry that he had to fight to be recognized in,” said Walked in a statement.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of André Leon Talley on January 18, 2022 in New York. Mr. Talley was the larger-than-life, longtime creative director at Vogue during its rise to dominance as the world’s fashion bible. Over the past five decades as an international icon was a close confidant of Yves Saint Laurent, Karl Lagerfeld, Paloma Picasso, Diane von Furstenberg, Bethann Hardison, Manolo Blahnik and he had a penchant for discovering, nurturing and celebrating young designers,” read the post.

TRIBUTES POUR IN FOR THE VOGUE LEGEND

Celebrities adored Talley and many took to social media to pay tribute to him. Reality star Kim Kardashian posted a picture with Talley on her Instagram Stories. 

“Love you Andre,” she wrote.

Kim’s mom, Kris Jenner also posted a tribute to the ex-Vogue editor. 

“I am so saddened to hear of the passing of André Leon Talley. We shared some very memorable times together and I will always remember how kind he was to me and my family. This was such a special afternoon at @RealMrValentino’s home in honor of Kim and Kanye’s wedding. We will remember you always. Rest In Peace @andreltalley @francasozzani1 @virgilabloh ❤️????????,” wrote Kris.

“I am sad to hear of Andre Leon Talley’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones,” tweeted Octavia Spencer. 

Many other stars posted tributes to tributes to the legend including Zendaya who reshared  a photo of him.
