Disgraced American producer, songwriter and singer R Kelly is not relieved that the state of Illinois is going to drop the sexual abuse charges against him.

BBC reported that on Monday, 30 January, that Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx has said her office “will no longer be pursuing these indictments” and will ask a judge to dismiss those charges.

SEXUAL ABUSE CHARGES IN CHICAGO DROPPED

According to Foxx, the Ignition singer is already serving at a federal level in New York which means that “justice has been served.”

R Kelly was accused of sexually abusing four people, three of whom were minors, in the Chicago case.

Foxx told reporters that it would not make sense to spend the time and resources to go to trial now that Kelly has been convicted twice on federal charges. The R&B singer was given a 30-year prison sentence on federal charges of racketeering and sex trafficking in New York last year.

“Sometimes justice is served even when there is no conviction,” Foxx said.

“[The decision] is not an indication that we don’t see them.

“I want to acknowledge that when we brought these charges… we brought them because we believed the allegations to be credible and we believed that they deserved the opportunity to have the allegations heard,” Foxx added.

On 23 February, R Kelly is scheduled to be sentenced on sex crimes he was convicted on last year and likely won’t be allowed for release until he is 80.

R KELLY FEELS NO REAL SENSE OF RELIEF

R Kelly’s attorney, Jennifer Bonjean, told TMZ she spoke with him after Foxx announced she would no longer pursue the case.

“There is no real sense of relief. He is still fighting for his life. He is facing decades in prison,” Bonjean said.

She added that Foxx made “the right move” with her decision.
