Queen Elizabeth II: Funeral details and more revealed

The Royal Family has announced the funeral details for Queen Elizabeth II via a tweet on Saturday 10 September.

QUEEN ELIZABETH II FUNERAL DETAILS 

Buckingham Palace announced that Queen Elizabeth II passed away on Thursday 8 September. The Royal Family Twitter account has since announced the funeral details of the late Queen.

“The State Funeral of Her Majesty The Queen will take place at Westminster Abbey on Monday 19th September,” read the statement.

“Prior to the State Funeral, The Queen will Lie-in-State in Westminster Hall for four days, to allow the public to pay their respects,” the statement continued.

According to the Palace, Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin is currently resting in the Ballroom at Balmoral Castle and will travel to Edinburgh on Sunday 11 September. The coffin will be travelling by road to the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

THE QUEEN’S COFFIN 

  • It will then rest in the Throne Room until the afternoon of Monday 12 September. A  Procession will be formed on the forecourt of the Palace of Holyroodhouse to convey the Coffin to St Giles’ Cathedral, Edinburgh. 
  • King Charles III and Members of the Royal Family will take part in the Procession and attend a Service in St Giles’ Cathedral to receive the Coffin.
  • The coffin will then lie in St Giles’ Cathedral guarded by Vigils from the Royal Company of Archers. This will allow people of Scotland to pay their respects.
  • Tuesday 13 September – The coffin will travel from Scotland by Royal Air Force aircraft from Edinburgh Airport. The coffin will land at RAF Northolt later than evening and be accompanied on the journey by The Princess Royal.
  • Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin will then travel to Buckingham Palace by road to rest in the Bow Room. 
  • Wednesday 14 September – The coffin will be born in Procession on a Gun Carriage of The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery from Buckingham Palace to the Palace of Westminster.
  • During the lying-in-state members of the public may isit Westminster Hall to pay their respects to The Queen.
  • Monday 19 September – Lying-in-state will end. The coffin will be taken in Procession from the Palace of Westminster to Westminster Abbey. This is where the State Funeral Service will take place.
