The bouquet that sat atop Queen Elizabeth II’s casket featured flowers cut from a plant grown from her wedding bouquet, announced via a tweet on Monday 19 September.
The official Twitter account for the Royal Family tweeted that King Charles III had a special request for his mother, Queen Elizabeth II’s casket. At His Majesty’s request, the bouquet that sat atop the Queen’s coffin contained florals from her wedding bouquet from her nuptials to Prince Philip.
The pair tied the knot on 20 November 1947. So, they were married for almost 74 years until Prince Phillip’s death on 9 April 2021.
“At The King’s request, the wreath contains foliage of Rosemary, English Oak and Myrtle (cut from a plant grown from Myrtle in The Queen’s wedding bouquet) and flowers, in shades of gold, pink and deep burgundy, with touches of white, cut from the gardens of Royal Residences,” read the tweet.
Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral took place on Monday 19 September. The late monarch passed away peacefully at Balmoral Castle in Scotland on Thursday 8 September. Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral is marked as a bank holiday in the England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
