‘A big moment in history for side chicks’: Tweeps on Camilla
Queen Consort Camilla topped the Twitter trends list following the Queen’s state funeral as Tweeps dragged her for being a ‘side chick’.

Twitter users are simultaneously dragging and celebrating Queen Consort Camilla following the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on Monday 19 September.
KING CHARLES AND CAMILLA STEP INTO NEW ROLES
Following the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, King Charles III will take on new roles. So will his wife, Queen Consort Camilla. Camilla was not initially meant to be titled Queen Consort but instead, Princess Consort. However, Queen Elizabeth II announced in February that the former Duchess of Cornwall will be titled Queen Consort when Charles becomes King. Many feel that this was the Queen’s stamp of approval.
King Charles will have to step back from some of the issues he is passionate about now that he is King. This is because he will be taking on new responsibilities as King.
“It will no longer be possible to give so much of my time and energies to the charities and issues for which I cared so deeply. I know this important work will go on in the trusted hands of others,” he said in his first address to the nation on 9 September.
The Queen consort will also be taking on new roles and responsibilities.
“It showed a transformation for her from how people once saw her to how people see her now,” said royal expert Jonathan Sacerdoti told E! News.
“She is the Queen Consort, she is Charles’ wife. She is someone who has taken on a lot of duty and carries out the roles of somebody in her position. That’s going to continue,” Sacerdoti continued.

- King Charles III met Camilla Parker Bowles back in 1970.
- The pair reportedly had a flight but when Charles joined the navy in 1972 he ended his relationship with Camilla.
- In 1973, the now Queen Consort married retired British Army officer Andrew Parker Bowles.
- Charles married Princess Diana in 1981.
- The King reportedly started having an affair with Camilla in 1986.
- Charles and Diana separated in December 1992.
- In 1994, the now Queen Consort filed for divorce from Andrew.
- Charles and Princess Diana officially divorced in 1996. Princess Diana died in a car crash on 30 August 1997.
- In 2000 Camilla started accompanying Charles to official events and the pair tied the knot in 2005.

However others defended the Queen Consort.
“Camilla was never the side chick! She was the main chick! Diana was just a pawn. Seeing Camilla up there is not a victory for side chicks. It’s a sign that patriarchy will make you choose a woman you don’t love for acceptance & lead to the suffering of an innocent woman,” wrote @MrZimpson.
