Inside Prince Harry’s inheritance: From Princess Diana to Queen

Prince Harry reportedly received an inheritance from Princess Diana, grandmother the late Queen Elizabeth II and his great-grandmother.

The Duke of Sussex Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle made headlines after King Charles evicted them from their UK home — Frogmore according to The Sun.

The pair also made headlines for confirming that their children received royal titles. While Prince Harry and Meghan appear to be happy in their Montecito home in California, here’s a look at the inheritance the Duke of Sussex potentially received.

PRINCE HARRY’S INHERITANCE

PRINCESS DIANA

The Duke of Sussex is the youngest son of the late Princess Diana and King Charles. When Princess Diana passed away on 31 August 1997, she left an inheritance to both her sons — Prince Harry and Prince William. Prince William is the next in line to the throne, after Charles became King following the death of Queen Elizabeth II on 8 September 2022.

According to Forbes, Princess Diana left her boys with an inheritance of $10 million (R185 million). Prince Harry and William received annual dividends of $450 000 (R8.3 million) a year, at the age of 25. 

Prince Harry also reportedly earned an estimated $50 000 (R929 000) when he worked as a helicopter pilot for the army.

QUEEN ELIZABETH II

Prince Harry and William are expected to split £8 million (R175 million) as an inheritance from the late Queen Elizabeth II when they turn 40. Her other grandchildren – Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice are also set to inherit a few million pounds each.

However, it is also unclear if Harry is still entitled to this inheritance after quitting his royal duties in 2020.

THE QUEEN MOTHER

Prince Harry, along with William also reportedly received an inheritance from their great-grandmother — Queen Elizabeth II’s mother — Queen Elizabeth, known as The Queen Mother.

The Queen Mother placed two-thirds of her money into a trust fund for her great-grandchildren. According to Cosmopolitan, this was an estimated £19 million (R417 million). 

The Guardian reports that William and Harry split about  £6 million (R131 million) of the trust when they turned 21. Harry was believed to have taken the majority of that money. This was reportedly to compensate for not becoming a sovereign. 

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Prince Harry is worth an estimated $60 million (R1.3 billion).
