South African DJ Nkosinathi Innocent Maphumulo, popularly known as Black Coffee, finally joined MacG and Sol Phenduka on an episode of Podcast and Chill which was shown in cinemas on Thursday 23 February. Here’s a look at the DJ’s net worth, houses, cars and more.

According to Zalebs, Black Coffee has a net worth of $60 million, which equates to R1.1 billion in rands. He is believed to be the second ranking of the wealthiest African musicians following Akon. 

So, how did the DJ become a billionaire? The DJ ventured into the music industry in 1994. He was one of the backup singers for Madlala Kunene along with two of his school friends. The DJ studied at the then Technikon Natal, now known as Durban University of Technology (DUT), where he majored in Jazz Studies, according to Briefly.

He formed an Afro-pop group called Simply Hot and Naturally African (SHANA) with Demor and Mnqobi which was signed to Melt in 2000. The DJ gained popularity after he participated in the 2004 Red Bull Music Academy. His first hit song was Happiness from the album DJs At Work. He later created Soul Music company in 2005.

Now, he has a total of nine studio albums. His starting fee for a show is now around R200 000 for a local show and around R2 million for an international gig.

  • Maserati

The DJ is believed to own several houses in South Africa and in the US. In a recent interview, he revealed that he moved into a flat when he moved out of his marital home. He then bought a house and thereafter bought his neighbor’s house as well.

Black Coffee was married to actress Enhle Mbali before they got a divorce. The pair have two sons together – Anesu and Asante.

Esona is Black Coffee’s eldest son, he is 23 years old. The identity of Esona’s mother is unknown.He also has another son named Lilitha, whose mother is also unknown. The DJ is rumoured to have fathered two children out of wedlock while married to Enhle.
