Before the murder of Reeva Steenkamp, Oscar Pistorius was known for his lavish lifestyle of fast cars and sprawling mansions, reportedly funded by his athletic career and endorsements.

But did you know the former Paralympian comes from a wealthy family who boasts multiple lucrative businesses?

The 36-year-old is facing the possibility of an early release after serving half of his 13-year and five-month murder sentence. He will meet a parole board on Friday, 31 March.

OSCAR PISTORIUS FAMILY BUSINESSES

The Pistorius family wealth emanates from Oscar’s paternal grandfather Hendrik Pistorius, who has four sons, Theo, Arnold, Henke, and Leo. He also has three daughters Sonia Grobler, Heidi Drew, and Reine Malan.

According to Investors Hub, the Pistorius family owns over 100 active companies collectively. The main company – H Pistorius & Co – is a family business that is involved in the processing, mining, marketing, and distribution of agricultural and industrial limestone.

Here is a breakdown of each son’s business interests

Arnold Pistorius is the owner of Twin City, a company that is responsible for developing, letting, and managing commercial properties around South Africa. He also owns several shopping malls and tourist resorts, both in SA and Austria.

According to The Witness, Henke – Oscar’s dad – is involved in property development and mining businesses.

News24 reports that Leo and Theo have businesses in transport, armoured vehicles, and property development both in South Africa, Austria, and Mozambique.

The publication adds that the brothers also own private game reserves, a ski lodge in Austria, a mine in Limpopo, and residential and leisure property developments. Additionally, they also own big game hunting companies and an air charter company.

According to The Richest, Oscar has a net worth of $5 million (R90 million).

HOUSES AND CARS

Should Oscar be released on parole, he will live with his uncle Arnold at his Waterkloof mansion in Pretoria.

The three-story 24-room estate is valued at over R20 million, reports TimesLive.

In 2014, Oscar sold his Silverwoods Country Estate – the home where he shot and killed Reeva Steenkamp – for R4,5 million. You magazine reports that a Boksburg mining consultant bought the four-bedroom mansion, which he rents out.

In a sworn court statement in 2013, Oscar revealed that he owned properties worth almost R10 million and generated over R5 million yearly income.

He’s also posted multiple Instagram posts of his fast cars and motorbikes.
