Oprah Winfrey has had a long-standing relationship with South Africa since opening her school the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls, in Meyerton, Gauteng, in 2009.

The United States celebrated Thanksgiving on Thursday 25 November and the iconic talk show host treated her South African guests to a pre-Thanksgiving dinner serving local favourites like samp and beans, bunny chow, chakalaka and bobotie

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, the 67-year-old hosted a few South Africans for the traditional American holiday.

Joining the party was actor and producer Thando Dhlomo who attended the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls as a young girl. Also at the table was actress Nomzamo Mbatha and Oprah’s partner Stedman Graham.

To say the dinner was a “feast” might be an understatement. The media mogul served up a healthy helping of classic South African cuisine, prepared by Oprah’s chef Raymond Weber

Several Mzansi tweeps took to Twitter and gushed over the talk show host’s proudly South African Thanksgiving meal.

One tweep wrote: “You think they made pap?”

Another wrote: “Honestly think Oprah had the best thanksgiving menu!”
