After singer Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona, popularly known as Makhadzi posted a photo of herself in ANC colours, controversial poet Ntsiki Mazwai penned an open letter to her via a Facebook post on 27 October.

NTSIKI PENS AN OPEN LETTER TO MAKHADZI

Makhadzi faced severe backlash after she posted a picture of herself sporting the ruling party African National Congress (ANC) colors on Twitter. In the lead up to election week Tweeps were not impressed by the singer and trolled her on Twitter.

A Makhadzi fan account defended her by posting a photo of iconic singer Brenda Fassie. The tweet explains that no one would turn down an invitation from the president.

This prompted Ntsiki Mazwai to pen an open letter to the Ghanama hitmaker. She began by acknowledging her talent.

“First of all I want to tell you what a brilliant talent you are. How we have watched your energy sweep over this nation without provocation. How you have set the country alight during probably the most difficult time of our Era. Your fresh and youthful energy has literally drugged the masses of this country. Sisi, you hold a lot of power right now,” began Ntsiki.

NTSIKI COMPARES MAKHADZI TO BRENDA FASSIE

The poet went on to explain that when the Weekend Special hitmaker politically aligned herself with the ANC it was at the dawn of democracy. While the ANC is currently associated with “poverty, corruption and elitism.”

“Unlike Brenda Fassie, who wore the ANC colors at the dawn of democracy… We had never had a black president before. So when Brenda Fassie put on those colors they represented something powerful,” wrote Ntsiki.

“The only thing ANC represents right now is poverty, corruption and elitism. Are you sure you want to pick sides so early in your career? ANC used to be a liberation movement, but what has it become today,” she continued.

She went on to say that any of the political parties she chose to align with would have resulted in backlash. Therefore, it was not worth “prostituting” herself for their campaigns.

“However this is not just about ANC, none of these parties are worth you prostituting yourself for their campaigns. If it had been EFF you would have gotten backlash from the feminists, as there is certainly a GBV apologist stink in that party. And DA would separate you from your people,” she added.

She then tells Makhadzi she is being used to mobilise a brand she built from her creative energy.

“Do you now see that you have a built a brand void of all this trash, now you are being used to mobilize the people with a brand you built from pure creative energy? Why not just take all the gigs and not choose a side? You’re the magic,” she went on to say.

NTSIKI DISHES OUT ADVICE

The controversial poet went on to advise Makhadzi to guard her integrity and influence with her life.

“My advice to you is to guard your integrity and influence with your life, don’t allow your beautiful gift to be used to sanitize politicians, that’s not your role. The politicians must compete in service delivery and stop trying to ride your wave for relevance,” she wrote.
